Introduction
From IndieGuide
Quick Overview
Welcome to The Indie Developer's Guide. Here the basics are explained and you are pointed to the main sections to get started.
- The Main Page should point you to all major sections of the wiki.
- Find out more about the background and mission of this site on the About page.
- If you want to become an author and add or change content on the site, check out the Community portal. It's so easy, please feel welcome to contribute as much (or little) as you like. This is a community site and its success depends on all of you.
- We also have a forum. Make sure to check out the guidelines for the forum before posting either on the forum or editing on the wiki as we make a clear distinction when to use which and for what purpose.
- If you are stuck in any way, consult the Help page.
What this site is NOT About
There are already great resources out on the Internet for indies. As it already says in the Community portal, we don't want to recreate or replace what exists already. So lets talk for a minute what this site is NOT about, and where you can find this need met.
- Announce your latest indie game - go to the Indie Gamer Forums, section "Announcements". For more ways to promote your game, check out our Marketing section.
- You are looking for help with your game - also go to the Indie Gamer Forums, and have a look the different sections available, e.g. "Help wanted" or "...Portfolios". We have a section here which talks about the issues related to working in teams.
Major Indie Web Sites
There are sites which all indies should know about and keep a regular eye on.
- Indie Gamer Forums - a great place to discuss all indie-related topics with other indies.
- The Indie Games Weblog - one of the main blogs on indie games.
- The Independent Gaming Source - one of the main blogs on indie games.
- GameTunnel - game reviews of indie games.
- Indie Game Developer's Postcast - podcasts with interviews of indies.
- GamesDev.net - articles, links, resources on the development of games.
- Games Programming Wiki - this wiki is now part of GameDev.net.
- DevMaster.net - like GamesDev.net, full of resources, including a wiki.
- Gamastura - huge site with lots of resources, articles, interviews, ... all about games, not just indie.
- Bytten - providing weekly indie game reviews and news since 2003.
- Bytejacker - a short, weekly video broadcast about the lastest games, including Indie games.
- Jay Is Games - regularly updated game reviews, walkthrough and competitions.
- If an important site is missing, please add it here. But make sure this list doesn't get too long and does not include just about every site on indie games. It should only consist of the main sites, links to sites that deal with specific topics should be listed on the appropriate page elsewhere on the wiki.
